It's a matter of opinion but I work as a resident at both Gos and Wong and prefer Gosford.

Wyong does tend to be a little more relaxed as its patient numbers aren't as high and it isn't a trauma receiving hospital. That said it can still get mentally busy. The current refurbishments mean facilities aren't what they could be - no surgical cover overnight - patients need to be transferred to Gosford. So things will probably change for the better

Roster-wise it is managed by the same people in Gos so issues are the same there.

It is still a fun place to work, but is slightly further afield than Gos and when doing nights (only in ED) you have to cover the wards as well - but that is because it is generally quieter than Gos.

Bottom line - great, fun place to work with very friendly staff.

Emergency seems to be the most social department to work in, 8hr shifts and plenty of different people staffing it you get to meet loads of new playmates to go out and socialise with. The dept is very well supported from a seniors point of view so you're never left feeling uncomfortable about what to do.

Certain terms are v heavily subscribed and take a lot of bargaining/asking for in order to get to be able to do - eg. ICU, every man and his dog seems to want a stint in there so be prepared to bargain. Not been on the wards so don't know about them!

Rostering of shifts needs a little work, but by and large everyone eventually gets what thay want or an acceptable compromise.

The area has a top heavy age population which mean when winter sets in it gets massively more busy.

Living on the coast is great, but depending on what time of year you arrive it does get really quite cold and Terrigal (where everyone seems to migrate to) kinda closes down a bit in the winter on the social side. According to the night of the week, bars are closed by 9pm or trying to kick you out so they can close. It's a good job winter here's only a couple of months unlike home! That said, come holiday season...alive and kicking...
