They've completed the new emergency department at Wyong now. It's a massive area to cover, with three separate areas for majors, minors and kids. The place itself is good to work, nice staff and relaxed environment. However, for most of the people who come over to the central coast of New South Wales to work, they will be living in Gosford, Terrigal or Avoca. This means a horrible drive to work every day, which if you are doing ward work (which is not recommended at Wyong - really sick patients get transferred to Gosford and it's general medicine boredom that always keeps you late)for 10 weeks or 3 months gets very wearing.

The food is crap. The staff cafe is awful, while the public cafe is better than Gosford, but overpriced as a result.

With regards emergency work, there is more fun to be had at Gosford. More trauma's, more procedures and better senior cover at night. For guys coming over just for 6 months of emergency work however, the more chilled out nature of Wyong is good for a break from the relative chaos of Gosford, and in fact if adrenaline is not your thing and general practice is, the minors section at Wyong is the best place for you. Patients can't afford or don't want to spend money on their GP, so they come to you.

Third busiest emergency department in New South Wales.

Lots of learning opportunities, lots of support, lots of fun.

Great social scene, super lifestyle by the beach. Just over an hour from sydney, near the hunter valley wine region, not far from the blue mountains.

plenty of surfing, drunkedness, sunshine and more drinking. It's awesome.
