Hunter Valley 4 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
On the central coast there are lots great places to visit while you are staying there. One place that is a must is the Hunter Valley!!! Only about 1 1/2 hours drive away and you can go wine tasting all day until you can't tell the diffence between Chardonnay and sauv blanc!!!

It is easy to find somewhere great to stay and if you have a group you can do it reasonably cheaply!! Just contact the hunter tourist information either before or when you arrive in the area and they can sort out accommodation for you!! (if you have a group prob best to sort out in advance)

Recommend smaller minibus tours to Boutique (smaller) wineries. Get to see some of the smaller wineries and it is nice sized groups of around 14. Great fun and a good way to do the wine tasting!!

Amother way to consider is on bikes - but beware you can actually get breathalised on a bike if you are on the main roads - so take it easy on the wine tasting!!!

Post edited by: admin, at: 2007/03/23 03:20

Hunter Valley is a must. We hired bikes as well (tandems!!!) - the roads are pretty rough but a great laugh. Watch out for the magpies during the breeding season thoug - they'll swoop out of the tree at you. Buggers! Also, get when you are on the bike, get the tasting sheets from the vineyard and mark up all the wines you want. THen before you leave take the car and pick up all the ones you liked!

Hunter Valley is a must. With around 150 wineries you won't get round them all, but well worth trying!

Sounds old-fashioned but you can be driven round in a horse drawn carriage- beautiful on a sunny day, lunch provided and friendly people. A great way to impress the folks when they're over visiting.
