Are you planning a holiday, working or otherwise, to NZ? Do you need assistance with planning your itinerary? Let me know how long you want to spend in beautiful New Zealand and I will let you know the things you must not miss. Enjoy. Anne.

Post edited by: anne@thepines, at: 2007/10/24 16:21

Hi Anne,

Thanks for the offer for help. I read somewhere (on this site) that a campervan around the south island is a pretty good way to get around?

Thanks

Campervans are a great way to travel, you take your house and food with you and never have to pack up to travel somewhere else. You will make lots of new friends who are doing the same thing, there are plenty of places to park your van and dump your waste and even some riverbeds and country tracks where you can park without charge. There are plenty of campervans in NZ, and arrows on the road to ensure you are travelling on the same side of the road as everyone else.

Always pre-book your campervan to ensure your home fits your needs and is available when you need it. Campervans come in all shapes and sizes and sleep between 2-6 people, and the cost depends on the size.

It is also possible to relocate a campervan if you wish. This is very cheap,is time limited and allows you only to go from point a to point b without side trips.

Maps are available free from the Automobile Association (AA) who recognise membership from other countries, or downloadable from www.wisesmaps.co.nz

Its a fun way to travel. You should try it.

Can vouch for Anne's comments. Wife and I did the South Island for a week. One of the best holidays of our life. One of the highlights involved getting up early, driving to the ski fields at Wanaka in our pyjamas, getting the premium spot in the car park and then cooking a fry-up before hitting the slopes. Little hairy on the road up the mountain but amazing nonetheless.

Get the biggest camper you can afford - otherwise it gets pretty cramped. We had a 2-berth delux (with shower) and it was the business!!!
