All I can say is simply a fantastic day (and I don't really like horse racing)

Lots of champagne, lots of socialising, just great.

I second that!!! a brilliant day.

Don't stuff around with fancy tickets... make sure you get GENERAL ADMISSION - this is close to the track and where all the atmosphere is.

Oh yeah, be prepared for it to be hot - very hot!!

And don't worry about affording the champagne; it's far cheaper to buy over here for stuff of good quality.

Alternatively, if you REALLY can't stand horse racing then it's a great time to drive/shop/go to the beach. There'll be no-one there!

Hi everyone,

Just be aware that if you are looking at doing other activities in Melbourne on Cup day that it is a public holiday for metro Melbourne so shopping may be limited.

Enjoy the experience!

nothing limited about melbourne during the cup... it's SO vibrant!! Everything is open (well at least it was last year).
