...the most beautiful state of them all!
If you want to get a toehold in Australia, or are a keen bushwalker/surfer/ all-around outdoor person, Tassie is hard to beat.
If you have a reasonable amount of experience (I'm talking staff grade level here) you may also be able to negotiate yourself a nice package. I got flights paid, car and accommodation for three months when I came out in 2006; if you've got good emergency experience then you could be in a strong negotiating position. One of the hospitals here is currently flying a Kiwi in to work in emergency on a week on, week off basis from Christchurch - if you have emergency/anaesthetics experience and good references, you would get serious consideration.
Tassie is rural and relaxing, The work can be challenging as you can be called on to care for very sick patients while waiting four or more hours for retrieval. There are some newish retrieval registrar positions in the state, flying not just around the island but to places like King and Flinders islands.
I've been back here for over 2 years now, working with a collection of overseas juniors, and not one of them regrets coming here!
