Salary packaging is a tax incentive that is available to Overseas Doctors. It is quite complicated to understand but the advice is definitely pursue it. Ask the questions and fill in the forms. Some doctors have managed to claim back a whopping AU$8,000 which will easily cover your flights, your car and probably more than a few trips to the Hunter Valley!!

Most hospitals in Australia will give you a week off after nights to "recover." If you combine this week off with annual leave then you effectively get 2-for-1... happy days!

Note you will should check to see if you get paid for this week off - many hospitals "forget" to inform you of this and you usually only find out when you get your pay cheque!
